Hirscheiders: June 2009

A while back as I sat watching Lily crawl around our living room, occasionally pausing to grin up at me or at some fleeting thought (probably about Cheerios) I found myself saying to Blake, "Are we going to remember how incredibly cute Lily is right now and at this stage of her life." Probably not in those exact words, but that was the sentiment. Anyway, it made me realize that if for nothing more than my own faulty memory, it was time to do another Lily-update type post.

I will include some random pictures taken with my phone at the bottom, so please feel free to skip on down...

All Things Lily Vol. 2

What She Likes:
1. Animals - I'm sure it began with Cooper, but Lily loves anything that moves (and also those that are stuffed). She gets a thrill out of the birds and squirrels in our yard and even animals on TV or in pictures. Dogs and cats seem to be her favorite - I think she likes going to the dog park even more than Cooper does.
2. Books - She likes to read them to herself in a high pitch voice as if she is always asking a question. It makes me wonder if that is how I sound to her. She of course likes to be read to and even enjoys the physical aspect and shape of a book as it comes tumbling off the low cubbyholes in her room - one of her favorite games.
2. Food - She is still a big fan of mealtime and prefers meat, Cheerios, bread and fruit. If she were not still in the 10th percentile of weight I might worry about this, but I guess she has some catch up room. She does carry all her weight in her cheeks and tummy. Even her pediatrician made a comment about her pint-sized pot bely at our last appointment. After a meal it is in full-effect and hangs over her pants, as hard as a 40-year-old man's gut.

3. Playing in the refrigerator - This is a new favorite pastime of hers. She loves to pull things off the bottom shelf and taking things in and out of the drawers.

4. The bathroom - I am not sure if the flushing toilet is the draw here, but Lily is always trying to get in the bathroom. I of course chase her down when at all possible but she is relentless in her pursuit. She also likes to peek behind the shower curtain - especially if someone is taking a shower. She will squeal with delight as the spray soaks her head and shoulders.

What She Does:
1. She is trying to say everything, but only a few words are consistently distinguishable. She has a fairly clear version of the following: "bye, bye," "dog," "no, no," "get," "key," "banana & Nana" (these sound the same), "hello"

2. Her "tricks" at the moment are shrugging her shoulders to say "I don't know," shaking her finger at Cooper and telling him "no, no" or to "get down," clapping her hands, and playing peek-a-boo

At The Wonder Place with Kinley Connett. This place lives up to it's name - it is amazing. Lily had a little bit of an attitude that day though and would cry every time Kinley touched her.

Lily joined me at work for a couple of hours one day when Mom had a Drs. appointment. She was pretty good, but made a HUGE mess. I have the best job, bosses and co-workers ever!

These next two are at an indoor playground at The Church at Rock Creek. It was a welcomed oasis from the 15 or so straight days of rain we had this spring. I really went for the good company of some other moms from church, but was pleasantly surprised how much fun Lily had there - considering our recent issues at The Wonder Place. She must have been in better spirits that day because I just tucked her dress in her panties and away she went.
