Summer Swim Time!

Lily and I went to the pool for her first time this week with my college roommate, Kate. 

She was happy until she touched the water.

She was all tired out when we went to Sonic for an after-swim ice cream. 

This is a couple of days later at the Steven's pool with some friends from church. She was just catching some shade while the bigger kids played in the water. 

Back to Work, Father's Day and a Visit to the Doctor

Last week I officially went back to work at the Arkansas Medical Society. Even though I only have to go in on Tuesday's, It was hard to leave Lily all day, but I was also thankful to have a day "off" to play the role of my former self. I am lucky to have a job that is so flexible and thankful to my bosses for accommodating our growing family. The day passed quickly and I was back home before I knew it. My mom and grandmother came to keep Lily and I am sure she relished the attention and time spent rocking in their arms. 

With the help of Blake's cousin, Beth and our friends Jessica, Lea Ann and Carrie, I came up with an elaborate scheme to surprise Blake with a new stereo installed in his car for Father's Day. My plan spanned the better part of two days but was foiled when Blake was searching for his bike grease and came across the stereo box that was accidentally left in the back seat. Blake, being the good sport that he is, continued to let me think he had no idea of the gift until I finally was able to "surprise" him. That night, Blake had the opportunity to say a few words at church about being a new dad. It was such a blessing to hear him publicly put into words the love that he has for Lily and that I have seen in him over the past two months. I am so proud of him and thankful to have him as a husband and Lily is so lucky to have him as her dad.

Lily went in this morning for her two month check up and shots. She of course did not enjoy the exam and shots, but she settled down a few minutes after and has been sleeping like a ... well, like a baby for the last hour. She checked out in perfect health and measured 22 inches long and weighed 9lbs 13oz.

Smiles & Head Bobs

Lily first started smiling at us at about 6 weeks, but we just now got a good one on camera so here is a clip (please ignore the poor cinematography and "baby talk" by her parents). 

Lily is getting more and more animated every day and has started reaching and batting at toys and trying to turn over. She LOVES to look at herself in the mirror and kicks her legs when she is excited.

  

Adding Insult to Injury

After a long night of playing "Where's my paci?" Lily began her morning with a good ole' loaded diaper and I stumbled groggy-eyed into the nursery to change her. As soon as I got her all cleaned up, I was blind-sighted by a large stream of green projectile #2 which traveled fiercely from my sweet little girl, through the air for about a foot, onto my stomach and then seeped down my leg. It also drizzled down the changing table and into the unfortunately opened bottom drawer. 

My only redemption was that Blake had not yet left for work. Not only was he able to help me clean up the mess, but I was just so thankful that SOMEONE else witnessed the atrocity in person.
